This showed Paul Revere’s patriotic side which people did not know due to this portrait being painted before his participation in the British attack on Massachusetts. Even though the meaning of the painting is unknown, we know that John Copley had a love for Paul Revere’s silver items he made. Upon this assumption, most scholars assume that John Copley painted this in order to spread beauty of Paul Revere’s silver pots and utensils. There is not much known about the commission of John Copley’s Paul Revere. John Copley loved to paint what he considered ‘more “usefull trade” like carpentry, shoemaking, and tailoring’ (Lasser).
Outside of the disease, the battle field offered for a truamatic stage for the actors of death. Many of the soldiers in the war were very young and "in the morning of life"; as a result, many of them had never been without the care of loved ones. In order to prepare themselves for the hardships of war, soldiers leaned to cultural values that asserted the values of masculinity, patiotism, and religion. In accepting these values, soldiers attempted to welcome the possibility of dying, and look forward to the glory that would be reaped in the afterlife. From religious values, the concept of the "Good death" in which a person died for "morally sound" reason, helped to galvinized young soldiers to look forward

In the painting, Warren is shown to dramatically descend into the arms of another soldier. Americans and British, the two main sides, are shown to be in hysteria. Among these figures, some key participants are William Howe, Henry Clinton, and William Prescott (St. Germain). Prescott also supposedly ordered American soldiers not to fire until “you see the whites of their eyes”. Two African American soldiers are also shown on the battlefield, representing the importance of black soldiers during the war.
The theme of grief is made clear through the repeat of the ongoing battles seen throughout the
Hi Bridgett, This painting is so on-point. There were many writers, artists, thinkers, and playwrights who fought in WWI. Their experiences were reflected in their works. Many of the show the horrors of war, disillusionment, man 's inhumanities to man, and the grotesqueness of their experiences. In many ways these paintings look like exaggerations but in a lot of ways, they were the realities of modern warfare: poison gas, machine guns, and advanced technologies.
This is important because it inspired the soldiers to fight with a stronger reason, making them fight
The black flower is a soldiers sense of foreboding.
It gives the viewer first hand knowledge into what it feels like to be surrounded by such horrific and agonising circumstances, such as those in World War I. It uses monochrome colour to represent death and fear, also the use of varied tone highlighted different areas which symbolise hope and a life beyond war, as well as strong shadows which were used to give a negative effect and symbolise the inhumanity behind war. The plate also relates back to cultural histories with ideas representing the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier and an abstracted idea of what the soldiers in World War I went
In the short story “Chickamauga,” by Ambrose Bierce is a really graphic story that's main theme about life and death seems to be ironic. In the sense that the little boy liked the thought of war and victory after all he came from a family that conquests and where successful explores. After the little boy goes to out into the woods and gets lots he has this fable inside his head where he destroyed an entire army using a sword, and after any victory any good solider takes a nap by the river to cool off and get ready for the next battle. The next morning when the little boy wake up he come across the by the soldiers that have dismembered body parts but these soldiers are clawing almost looking like the living dead because they had scars ripped off
The Mystic Chords of Memory The attempt Abraham Lincoln took to make all units of America civil and protected was listed and told in his first Inaugural Address. As the confederates and the Union were unable to come to terms with Lincoln’s statements, Civil War began soon after the Address was published. When president Lincoln wrote his speech to share with all units of the country, his main goal was to keep all states peaceful and together as one. While listing all rules and laws that were in place during the 1860’s, Abraham Lincoln’s famous statement beginning with “The Mystic Chords of Memory” stood out to others and created multiple effects for both Northern and Southern areas of the states.
The juxtaposition causes the audience to be grateful for those who fight for what they believe is righteous. It may also cause the audience to do something for their nation, to commemorate the fallen
The pain that the soldier could get from guns could only last for a moment, but it also could be a pain that comes slowly, gradually and kills you with tough and suffer, which is an agony for mentally and physically, connecting to theme. “The shrill, demented choirs of wailing shells” is from seventh line in first stanza. Owen also uses symbol to describe the scene of soldiers dying in the battle field by comparing with actual funeral in church with friends and families grieving his death. However, there are no beautiful calming voice choirs from the church in the battlefield to make the dead person rest in peace; no people to grieve, no funerals there. Instead, they here the sound of dull and big sound of shells attacking them.
