Julia Schemmer, an undergraduate student studying Public Policy and Education at the University of California, writes copious blog posts, and was a finalist for Shorty Awards of 2015 Best Blogger. Schemmer wrote an article for The Huffington Post in 2014 titled “The Difference Between Feminism And Sexism.” This text argues that feminism should include creating equal rights for men and women, instead of “hating” on the opposite sex. The article relies heavily on facts regarding women facing serious problems by repeating “I’m a feminist because…”(pars 4-8) These extreme hits on reality are interpolated into her argument with the hopes of appealing to the reader's pathos while also giving reason to her being a feminist to help with an appeal in ethos, but because of the repetitive nature of her statement, Schemmer easily loses the appeal to logos, and hurts the effectiveness of the article. …show more content…

She then states that “Many people have misconstrued the true definition of a feminist.”(par 1) To provide evidence for her statement, Schemmer quotes Webster’s Dictionary definitions of both sexism and feminism, saying “Unlike sexists, feminists are not trying to mistreat men, but rather receive equal compensation, opportunities and treatment.”(par 2) By using real definitions before stating what she believes, schemmer establishes an ethos appeal, providing trust to the readers about what she has to
