Juveniles Should Be Tried As Adults

When you turn the age 18, you get freedom. You receive certain rights such as voting, the ability to purchase a house, the ability to purchase tobacco cigarettes at the local gas station, but most importantly to be held responsible for your actions. An 18-year-old is basically an adult in nearly every state of the United States. For most teens that’s a big deal. Also when teens turn 18 they will no longer be seen as kids in juvenile court. They will be seen as adults and be tried as adult crimes. So are teens different when being at the legal age? Does it really matter what age the person is should they just get a warning because “they’re only kids?”

Is it okay when a 15 or 16 year old gets tried for murder as a juvenile then a 18 year old doing the same crime and getting a worse sentence? Does it have to do with the teens mental state and how they think that makes them do these heinous crimes? Young teens who commit these murderous crimes deserve the same punishment as if they were a 18-year-old adult. I believe a crime is a crime and for that, Juveniles who commit violent crimes should be tried in the same way as adults. …show more content…

This may be true, but there are not a lot of people who are sympathetic to these reasons. However, that doesn’t explain why young juveniles do what they know is wrong. The Juvenile courts in the past have been sympathetic to issues of maturity of these juveniles. As a result, juvenile courts pursue a plan of restoring people who think killing is okay. They also go through counseling in hopes of giving these young juveniles support threw their mental issues and help them become safe to
