Katniss’s father died in a mine explosion; however, before he died he was teaching Katniss how to shoot a bow and a arrow. Katniss is now using this skill to hunt in the woods (which is forbidden and you can be punished by death) to supply for her family. This shows that Katniss is very brave. Katniss loves her sister Prim every much, in fact so much that Prim was chosen to go play in the annual Hunger Games to represent District 12 and Katniss was so brave and bold she volunteered herself because she knew Prim would not survive a second in the Hungers Games.

The Capital is an oppressive government that owns 12 Districts. The Districts are ranked by their numbers. As you got through the numbers the one that is doing the best is district 1 and the district that is doing the worst is District 12.

In the middle of the games, Katniss finds herself in a love triangle with her longtime friend back in district 12 Gale.
