Never judge a person by how they look, but by their personality. To begin, in the realistic fiction novel, Freak the Mighty, by Rodman Philbrick, they are two friends, Max and Freak, with disabilities. Max is a very tall person who has a learning disability and Freak is not that tall and has morquio syndrome. They end up going on adventures and facing trouble. There are two themes that could be found throughout the book.
The main focus throughout the duration of the book is bullying; tone, symbolization, and modern connections help provide the understanding that bullying is a never- ending issue. The villains and the hero of the world both have the right to exist, they both have a purpose and what we learn from them helps everyone
One of the main ideas mentioned was “physical deformities correlate with moral and spiritual deformities” (Foster, 133). In real life, people’s deformities go unnoticed, or are deemed unimportant. However in stories, characters who are deformed or have a disability are special. Authors don’t take the time to set a character apart for no reason. He used an example about bringing a blind man into a plot, and that the author will have to change the other characters and the plot so that they adapt to the man being blind.
Even though August is disfigured, he is still brave and a great person. He is brave because of all of the surgerys that he has been through and how he hasn’t been scared of hiding from the bullies. August is a brave person, who wants to show the world what he can do. For this reason, Chapter 14 of, How to Read Literature Like a Professor, relates to the novel, Wonder. Both books teaches readers that some people who are disfigured are the greatest people of all.
There is a kid in Wonder named Auggie, and he has disabilities and a weird face. He is pushed away just like Matt is in this book. Auggie goes to school and people don’t accept him because he is different from others. Matt is also pushed away because he is a, “Beast” even though he’s just the same as others. Matt and Auggie both are pushed away, and are not treated fairly.
In “Wonder”, the author RJ Palacio writes from the perspective of August, to give the reader levels of insight and empathy for the main character. August goes through the ringer on a daily basis just to try and earn his education “Rat Boy. Freak. Monster. Freddy Kruger.
August feels out of place when this kid talks about how he eats differently than other people do. This shows that August feels like he's left out from his friends and discouraged from the stuff he does. In conclusion August is very different
In the novel Wonder by R.J Palacio, Jack and summer have different perspectives about august but they are still friends with him but they still Friends with no matter what he looks like. For example, “He's not a zombie, I laughed like they were making a joke”( pg 119). His classmates treat August differently because does not look the same as other people. This means that even if August is down on himself, his friends will still cloud lift him back up off the ground. For example, after he left the classroom Jack said: “ dude thanks for doing that” (pg 142).August looks out for other people and for that reason that makes him a very good friend to other people.
On the other hand Agust has a lot of pressure to fit in. August is new to his school and doesn’t have many friends because of the way his face looks. To add on
