Ms. Clark, I know you have been thinking about uniforms for the school and I respect your opinion: but, I believe the uniforms will do more harm than good. I have looked at many websites finding many facts and statistics for and against uniforms. As I look at the different sites I keep seeing the same things over and over again.
This quote also proves that the student’s will be focused on their work instead of worrying about what the other students are saying about what they are wearing. Another quote that helps prove that having school uniforms would help maintain a safe and stable learning environment for the students is that “Research shows that when schools implement a uniform policy, it improves grades, while it reduces tardiness, skipped classes and suspensions. One study showed that 70% of principals believed that mandated school uniforms reduced disciplinary problems at their schools.” With that being said, having school uniforms in public schools would impact the kid’s learning abilities in a positive way. Some of these tardinesses are probably from the factor of kid’s
Should students wear school uniforms? This topic has been brought up many times in America and other countries around the world. School uniforms do not stop bullying, instead on the other hand many increase violent attacks. Research by Tony Volk, PhD, Associate Professor at Brock University, stated, “School uniforms increase the average number of assaults by about 14 per year in the most violent schools.”
This is one of those debates that happens over and over again. My judgement on school uniforms is a yes and a no. It would stop bullying over clothing but it basically tells the kids that they can’t express themselves at school. School uniforms would stop distractions but the children would feel like they can’t show their differences in clothing like some kids like colorful stuff and some have traditional clothing and some like certain things that they like to dress in. School uniforms are not a bad idea but the flaw is how the uniforms affect the students minds.
And it does not raise test scores which leads me to my next reason why we should not wear uniforms. My second reason is that is does not stop bullying kids get bullied over what they are clothes people think that it will help but it wont. Everyone will be wearing the same clothes but if we wear uniforms kids from other schools would bully them from there. It does not help test scores and does not help grades.
School uniforms should not have to be worn in school. School uniforms restrict students’ freedom of expression. The First Amendment of the US Constitution guarantees that all individuals have the right to express themselves freely. With uniforms, kids will not be able to wear what they want and will not express themselves how they wish.
School uniforms pro or con, this controversial subject has been going on for a while arguing it takes away students' self of expression or whether it helps establish a better learning environment. Which one truly is the best option for the future of our students and which one can truly maximize their potential for a better learning environment as well as the safety for them when they go to school, these thoughts are key points in when discussing the argument over school uniforms Starting with the pro side, school uniforms themselves have many upsides to them such as eliminating visible economical differences, which can be very helpful to diminishing bullying that is caused by a person's social/economic status, another upside would include the prevention of gangs forming because of how school uniforms would eradicate gangs being able to represent themselves via clothing. Eradicating gang association amongst the school grounds can definitely lead to a safer and better learning environment for the students knowing that they'll be safe when coming to school.
This can lessen the bullying over who has the best styled clothing, or whose clothes is worth more. This can lead to students making bad decisions to get the clothes they wanted because what they had was not good enough. Without implementing school uniforms, someone who is being bullied and judged by their, and is lost and do not know where to turn to, might end up ending his life or someone else 's. This is not acceptable. This is not how the leaders of tomorrow should be raised and taught. Action can be either provoked now, or after names are carved into concretes and memorials have been taken placed.
Firstly, school uniforms reduce the distraction in the classroom. According to “UNIFORMS: are they a good fit?” it states, “Many of these students say dress down days are somewhat distracting”(Marsha 36). This evidence proves that at a school where school uniforms are usually worn, they get to have a free day where they can wear whatever they want, but even then, one, just one day, students claim for it to be a little distracting.
In conclusion, school uniforms are a great thing to have in schools. Even though there is that argument on whether school uniforms will violate the right of self-expression to students it will continue either way. At the end of the day students should see that there are more positive effects with uniforms rather than negative ones. It should be taking in consideration that the clothes a student wears will not determine the ability of learning, but why not pick school uniforms that can help stop current school
It actually has a lot of benefits like reducing distractions, reducing peer pressure or bullying, saving money, and enhancing school pride. At first glance, fashion might seem to have very little to do with learning, but as the saying goes, the clothes makes the student. Mandatory uniform policy has made a distinct difference in many schools. School uniforms will keep students focused on their education, not their clothes. According to A bulletin published by the National Association of Secondary School Principals stated that "When all students are wearing the same outfit, they are less concerned about how they look and how they fit in with their peers; thus, they can concentrate on their schoolwork".
In the article of Dr. Alan Hilfer from 2009, “Disadvantages of a School Uniform Policy” stated that “We need free thinking children of to become thinkers of tomorrow, not droned who will continue making the mistakes of previous generations”(Hilfer, 2009). Feelings on school uniforms seem to differ as much as the reasons for having them, hate it, or love it. Recent studies done in the University of Alabama states that: “Student Uniform use was not significantly correlated with any of the school commitment variables. In addition, students wearing uniforms did not appear to have any significantly different academic performance” (Brunsma & Rockquemore, 1998). The problem whether schools should still be continuously implemented is a highly debatable topic.
School uniforms give students a sense of unity because they feel like they can fit in without fear of being too different. Making a dress uniform mandatory will decrease sexual harassment, create more interesting humans and make schools safer. A school uniform would make schools safer. The idea of wearing uniforms to schools was originally introduced to reduce violence in schools in 1996 by the Department of Education (Underwood, 1).
In conclusion, school uniforms benefit students in a number of ways. School uniforms are cost-efficient, promote equality among students and reduce the distractions that don’t relate to school work. Even Bill Clinton, former President of the United States of America said that uniforms are a “better” choice for students. I strongly believe that school uniforms should not be banned from schools and I encourage other schools who don’t require school uniforms to try as uniforms create a better learning environment for the future leaders of the
Many students who wear uniforms feel more proud of their school when other people recognize them. Wearing school uniforms can also help them gain more self-confidence because they feel that they are a part of something bigger. In conclusion, school uniforms have many advantages and seem to be more positive than negative for students. It help get rid of bullying acts in schools based on what the students are wearing.
