King Henry the 8th
King Henry the 8th lived and ruled England from 1491 to 1597. He became King after the deaths of his father and older brother. He was the first king to break England away from the Catholic church and created the best Navy at that time for England. He had 5 children 3 of which lived to become kings or queens of England. He was the 2nd in the Tudor dynasty and Married 6 wives to try and have a male successor. Because of all the things he did while he was king he went do in history as one of England's most important kings and one of their most controversial as well. They believed that if a person was a widow they could re-marry but you couldn’t get a divorce if you just thought that your marriage wasn’t working. Henry tried to get the Pope to grant him an annulment but the Pope refused and in 1533 Henry was so angry with the church he ordered the Archbishop of Canterbury to give him a divorce so that he could marry anne boleyn. “The Pope didn’t want this to happen but for the Archbishop to stay on good terms with Henry he had to give him a divorce”(The Reformation). With the divorce he also broke all ties with the Roman Catholic church. It took the king seven years to get an annulment from Catherine.
After he annulled her he went and married Anne Boleyn. Anne was the daughter of a knight and the niece of the Duke of Norfolk. She was the mother of Queen Elizabeth. She had several other children also but they all died or were miscarriages. After three years of marriage Henry accused her of witchcraft and adultery. She was found guilty (today their wouldn’t be enough evidence to convict her of anything) and she was executed by beheading on may 19th 1536 in the tower of London. His third wife was Jane
