Louis XIV, The King Of France 5 years old, that is the age of King Louis the 14th took over as king. In 1667 the war of devolution broke out, this happened because he invaded the Spanish Netherlands, but because the english, the swedish and the dutch were pressuring france to retreat, they did just that, gaining very few territories. ¨This unsatisfactory outcome led to the Franco-Dutch War (1672-1678), in which France acquired more territory in Flanders as well as the Franche-Compté.¨ (Louis XIV, history.com). King louis kept pushing to gain new land and over time it made france the most dominant power in europe. Now at the height of his powers and influence, Louis established “chambers of reunion” to annex disputed cities and towns along France’s border¨. Now that france is the most powerful country in all of europe, other countries started to get threatened by france, including spain and england. Louis then made an army with a lot of other countries known as the great alliance, the war that ended up happening lasted nearly 10 years, france came out with almost all of its territories. If king louis hadn't built up his army they could up lost lots of land and resources. Not only did louis care about the french military, he also vared about culture and art.
