The Ku Klux Klan also known as the KKK, terrorized the nation in 1920. The aim of the Ku Klux Klan is and was to declare white supremacy and maintain a strict racial hierarchy, they employed violence and acts of terror to achieve this. It began in 1865, where the world saw the first Klan sought out to overthrow the Republican state governments during the reconstruction era. The second Klan started up in 1915 and by the 1920s it was a national organization, with presence in not only South America but in New England, the Midwest and across the Northern U.S. The Klan had nearly 4 million members by 1924, who would all wear robes, light crosses on fire, read Klan newspapers and participate in political campaigns on local and national levels.
