Cigarettes, heroin, marijuana, Xanax, Adderall, cocaine, meth, and alcohol are some the variety of drugs found in Vegas. They stimulate the body but then leave the body damaged. Drugs are not only used by adults, however. The use has shifted down towards teenagers. Despite being illegal they are popular in Las Vegas. They are easy to use and give immediate feedback to the user. It is easy to access entertainment with mighty consequences. This prolonged drug use makes it even more difficult for adolescents as it leads to addiction. Teenagers are trapped using drugs in a drug-filled city. Boredom, peer pressure, poverty, depression, and the normalization of drugs has caused adolescents to partake in drug activity.

The main reason would be peer pressure. In school, teenagers can be easily pressured by their peers and if their clique happens to participate in drug activity then it is very likely they will as well. When I walked around different schools I could overhear teenagers asking for smokes and talking about last nights “party”. The smell is quite obvious. I remember smelling strong scents of marijuana at public schools whenever I needed to run for track or take SATS. Drugs are easily accessible to teenagers through the use of “plugs”. They are essentially the dealers for these teenagers. They would ask each other if they would want to smoke and they would have to first call up the “plug” to get a good supply of whatever they wanted. Those growing in poor neighborhoods have a limited amount of options for any activity. These adolescents still want to be entertained however and drugs can be sold relatively because dealers want to lure in new potential buyers. Impoverished neighborhoods also have a higher usage of drugs due to the fact that drug use can make you poor. Once users are addicted to a drug, users want to continuously buy them so they can continuously use them. The dealers see this pattern and in return raise up the price of their drugs. This leaves the drug consumers poor. Depression can spark from this and cause for another need for a reliance on drugs. Depression from any origin could spark a start in drug use in adolescents because drugs stimulate the mind and can work as a temporary “solution” to get the adolescents to take their mind off things. They might feel better once on drugs and continue the use of them to achieve that better
