In the short story called “Law of Life” by Jack London, the main character in the story named, Koskoosh, whom is a very old man. He was about to die from a pack of wolves that encircled him. Danger and hunger was within the wolves and they had an instinct to make themselves satisfied. Koskoosh’s son was the chief of his tribe. His son is full of strength and is much more vigor. When Koskoosh was younger, he was the chief of the tribe and now since he is older, his time to go has come. Koskoosh was expected to die from the cold, a slow death, but he could no longer contribute to his tribe. The tribe had to carry on without his presence and focus on their own survival. The tribe was expected to act the way they actually did. As the story goes on, Koskoosh was by himself, left behind by his own tribe, and he was expected to freeze to death. He is traveling from a place called Livingston, Montana to Gulch City. They’re fifty miles apart and the narrator and his partner were loaded down with camp supplies. They had a barrel of flour, bacon, coffee and beans, a blanket for two, some dynamite, and some picks and shovels. With only a few more miles before they reached their destination, a pack of hungry wolves came across their path. The wolves were on each sides of their sleigh and did everything they could to attack them. The men used some of the supplies that they were carrying to get rid of them. Doing so, they killed a few of the vicious wolves. They kept getting closer to the sleigh and one of the men had a thought in his mind that was better than getting ripped to shreds. He wanted to kill himself because it would be faster but there was not a bullet apiece for the both of them.
