One of the companies that are actively engaged in the development of crowdsourcing is Lego. Lego is a company that involved in developing creativity of children through playing and learning (“The LEGO Group”, n.d.). Also, it is best well-known for the manufacture of Lego-brand toys. This is because Lego has been building our imaginations with little plastic blocks since 1949 and has become an empire built on the stunningly simple and clear concept of interlocking toy bricks. With roots as a small start-up in Germany, the brand now spans the globe and is a meaningful part of childhood lives worldwide. Samsung is also aggressively involved in the development of crowdsourcing. Based on Stickler (2013), Samsung Group headquartered in Seoul and it is South Korea’s largest business group.
In Palo Alto (CA.), Samsung launched the world's largest crowdsourcing facility. It solicits flexible open innovation solutions for many of its technology and electronic products such as flexible screen technologies, smart cameras, semi-conductors and so on. In 2013, Samsung collaborated with crowdsourcing-leader, Marbler to crowd source ideas on how they could employ newly discovered patents from NASA. They offered users the opportunity to help create the company’s next product and earn a share of income. They are crowdsourcing ideas through a contest.
The Korean smartphone manufacturer is asking publics to contribute ideas around what type of devices to make with its flexible display technology. The Flexible Future Business Plan Contest is offering up a $10,000 first prize, as well as smaller second and third prize cash prizes, to an individual or company that comes up with the best and superior ideas on how to apply thin, flexible or even foldable displays to the marketplace (Etherington, 2013).
