If someone were to take a survey asking normal people, there would probably be a vast majority of people who know who Leonardo Da Vinci is. Even one of the Ninja Turtles are named after him! Leonardo Da Vinci has gone down as one of the most innovative people to ever live. Some even called him the “Renaissance Man”. Leonardo Da Vinci was a painter, sculptor, inventor, draftsman, military engineer, architect, and a scientist! Now that’s what you call a “jack of all trades”. At this point, Leonardo Da Vinci may seem like an interesting person to some people; however, there are also a few more interesting facts about Leonardo Da Vinci that will be mentioned shortly. However, the biggest reason Leonardo Da Vinci is still famous today is for being an artist to some people. Two of his most common works are the “Mona Lisa” and the “Last Supper” paintings. An interesting fact is that it took him 10 years to paint the lips on the “Mona Lisa”! Now that is a really, really long time! One thing some people may or may not know is that Leonardo Da Vinci would leave many of his paintings, drawings, etc. unfinished. He would even destroy most of his art work! One might ask “If he was such a good artist, why would he destroy his own art?” However, one question to actually consider is “If he destroyed most of his work and the work that actually wasn’t destroyed is very popular, how good were some of the works he destroyed?” As was stated earlier, Leonardo Da Vinci was born in Italy. He actually lived there for most of his life.(Most). In 1516, French ruler Francis I offered Leonardo Da Vinci the title of “Premier Painter, Engineer, and Architect to the King”. One thing that comes with that deal is being a very wealthy man. Obviously, that is a deal too good to refuse. So why would anybody refuse that? Leonardo Da Vinci probably thought the same thing.
