In the modern day, music is constantly surrounding us and has a very large influence on culture all around the world. Although many artists may produce music that will make it to the “top charts”, many of these songs do not portray positive messages. However, artists from around the world are now making an attempt to use their musical abilities and influence to make change around the world and impact society for the better. The article entitled, “The Best World Music of 2017” includes 10 artists who changed the music world this past year by resisting injustice and pushing forward with a positive, renewed energy. These artists have used their rising voices and their social platform to stand up for what they believe is right and are now demanding to be heard. This group was chosen in light of the mistreating and inequality of women that is happening around the world today. Les Amazones d’Afrique is demanding respect and appreciation for all women in creative ways. One example of this is one of Les Amazones d’Afrique’s most popular songs featured on “Republique Amazone”, I Play the Kora. The instrument mentioned in this song, the Kora, is traditionally only played by men. Les Amazones d’Afrique is insisting that people all round the world recognize that women can too play the Kora.
