The book that I chose to review is called The 5 Levels of Leadership. This book was written by John C. Maxwell. When first reading about this assignment I had no idea what book to chose being that other than my text books I have not read any books on leadership. I began searching for a book to order that could help me complete the assigment for this course. I finally decided with this one because this book is about leadership and having followers and I thought that this went along great with the text for this course.
The book is broken down between the five levels of leadership. The levels are Position, permission, production, people development, and pinnacle. These different levels talk about what they are, how you acheive them, and why you …show more content…

Overall it is mainly just a title and yet there is a power struggle in getting all groups to follow you. Although being a positional leader is the lowest level it is still a hard job. There is sometimes a struggle to get the respect that you think that you deserve and to get people to work how you want them to.
In our text it talks a lot about being a new and young manager this fits in with my book because both new and young managers have a lot of the same issues that positional leaders do. They can both struggle to get people to follow them. Part of this is because they are unsure if you are deserving to be in that spot and partially because they dont know or trust you yet.
The next level of leadership is permission. This is different from positional because people follow permission leaders because they want to not because they are forced to because they have a leadership job title. Permission leadership is based on relationships and earning the respect.
This goes back to our book about management because it is important to buil trust to be successful. Not only is building trust important but it is also important to be nice and put your best foot forward everytime you meet somebody.
