The prophet Isaiah was the son of Amoz from the Southern kingdom. Isaiah prophesied from about 740 to 690 BC during the time when Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, Hezekiah and the Kings of Judah were in power (Isaiah 1:1 KJV). Isaiah married a woman called prophetess and they had two sons; Shear-jashub which meaning a remnant will return, and Maher-shalal-hash-baz which means quick prey. During the time of King Uzziah’s Isaiah got the call from God to prophesy giving him a vision in the Temple (Isaiah 6:1-1 KJV). Uzziah was considered a good king. The nation experienced a time of peace and prosperity. Unfortunately, upon King Uzziah’s death things began to decline and Judah began experiencing some instabilities.
Israel had become so dishonorable God was ready to remove them from his sight. The affluent and powerful people stated bringing some of the ungodly rituals of their neighbors in their worship. He received the call of God to prophesy 625 B.C. and it lasted almost 60 years, until after the fall of Jerusalem to the Babylonians in 586 B.C. In the beginning Jeremiah hesitated to answer the call because he did not think he was equipped. He said he was too young but God reassured him he had anointed him and he went to boldly declare the Word according to the Lord (Jer. 1: 5-7). Jeremiah love Judah but his love for God was stronger and he walked in obedience. He warned Judah of God’s judgement and tried to spare them from the destructive nature. After the death of Josiah who was a righteous king, Judah dishonored God and the commandments. They returned to the treacherous behavior that was more horrible and unfaithful than its sister Israel
