In the module one assessment, I stated that the area of need in my school’s literacy program was motivation and support given to students who come from a low socioeconomic home. 87% of students who attend Blue Ridge Elementary live in a low poverty situation, are homeless, or are in a foster home. These students do not receive motivation and support that students who are not living in poverty get ("Blue Ridge Elementary State Report Card", 2015). In grades 3-5, 131 students tested in the “in need of support” range (“Blue Ridge Elementary State Report Card”, 2015). Of my eighteen second grade students, 44% of the students met or exceeded their end of the year goal.
In this essay, I will argue about how technology is our most important literacy sponsor for our development of literacy. As a young child, my mother always used to forced books on me. Every other day was reading day and I would have to read a book to my mother. I would always look at her and cry because I hated sitting down and opening up a book that was longer than my instruction manual for my video games.

This assignment was one of the hardest paper we had to do in our quarter because, we had complete freedom on how we wanted to develop our topic. During the peer review I found out that I had done the assignment wrong and didn 't have a clear idea of what I wanted to project in my paper. I took a moment to decide what I wanted to say and started to change and remove sentences that weren 't necessary. On my first draft of my Literacy Narrative I made negative statements about my writing, which wasn 't the purpose of the assignment. After some time, I finally decided to write about my growth in writing and how I found another outlet for my creativity and where I consider myself to be good at.
We were asked to write a literacy narrative in English class and at that moment I was tracing through my memories where language or listening had any influence on me. I was stuck. I have a few instances where I could see how language at a specific moment in life influenced me, but I just could not decide what to write about. Then it hit me, it was like a bulb lit up. The California Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts & Literacy evaluates the students writing sample and decipher whether the students are measuring to his/her grade level. Student 5A literacy measures at a fifth-grade level, the student integrate information from several sources such as class notes, books, and online websites to examine several topics such as JFK speech, America landing on the moon and winning the space race which demonstrates the student ability to build knowledge from researching a topic. Student 5A either summarized or paraphrase his/her research, for example, they asked the students at Rice University to study hard and join NASA to help build the rocket but did not cite the material used for the research.
The English department teachers will need to support this plan if it is to be put into the high school. Many of the English teachers recognize that students misunderstand what they are reading and that they need help that is not offered in regular English classes. A large problem is that teachers have little room to help students because the many rules, tests, and due dates that teachers are required to have and cannot find the time to help improve the student’s learning ability.
