My interest in teaching all began in first grade. A year I had the most memorable teacher of my educational career. Her love, guidance and success in making each day fun through interactive activities had a huge impact on my career. Every single day, she would have my class come to the carpet to read a chapter from the book that we had been reading. I want to be the teacher who gets her students excited about reading. Through my experiences, I have found my passion and love within the children. I want to have an impact on my students’ lives as well as teach my students that they can achieve their dreams. However, the overall goal of literacy instruction is to build a student’s comprehension, writing skills, and overall skills in communication. I want to incorporate various strategies in order to receive the most successful outcomes from my students. Overall, my classroom will be adjusted to the needs of my students and I will always remain adaptable in order to adjust to their needs. When thinking about literacy, it is significant to understand that literacy is not only reading and writing. Literacy is the integration of all modes of language arts which also consists of the 5 pillars: comprehension, fluency, vocabulary, phonics, and phonemic awareness. In order to prepare my students for the real world, I will address informational texts within my classroom so that my students can learn how to read and write informational text. Informational texts will be used in the classroom to address my students’ questions and interests because the text will then lead to higher achievement as well as motivation.
