2.0 LITERATURE REVIEW 2.1 Integrity Indistinct definition of integrity is still debatable. The concept of integrity is still not clear though it is being discussed widely (Trevinyo-Rodriguez, 2007; Palanski & Yammarino, 2007). The term of integrity is derived from the Latin term integer which means wholeness and completeness. Integrity is the consistency of an acting entity’s words and actions (Palanski & Yammarino, 2007). Trevinyo-Rodriguez (2007) also defined integrity as the bridge between character (personal psychology) and conduct or behaviour (ethics). Webster’s Dictionary defines integrity as the quality or state of being complete, wholeness, entireness and unbroken state. Different people have different opinions on the concept of leadership. In the transformational leadership model, leaders set direction and help themselves and others to do the right thing to move forward. To do this they create an inspiring vision, and then motivate and inspire others to reach that vision. Being a good leader not only requires a lot of experience, knowledge, skills and acting efficiently, but also requires transparency, accountability and being ethical. According to Allio (2012) good leaders require both competence and integrity. Leadership is defined as the accomplishment of a goal through the direction of human assistants (Prentice, 1961). Similarly, leadership is defined as an interaction between two or more members of a group that often involves a structuring or restructuring of the situation and the perceptions and expectations of members (Bass B., 1990). Leaders play important role as they are the one who develop an organizational culture of trust. In a way, they build a foundation of integrity and ethical standards in the organization (Waxler and Higginson, 1990). Lead by example is a common phrase to demonstrate a good leader. Leader is the one who articulate the organization’s vision and also able to listen and respond to what they
