Lois Ann Hammersberg ( Lois Lowry) was born on March 20, 1937 in Honolulu, Hawaii. Her parents were Katherine and Robert Hammersberg. Her father worked as an Army doctor and her mother was a house mom and a kindergarten teacher. She had two siblings, one older sister named Helen and one younger brother named Jon. Since her father was an Army dentist, they would move around the world when growing up.
Since she moved to several places, when growing up, she would go to different schools each time. When she was six years old she went to Franklin School in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. In that time Lois spend a happy childhood, which helped her in her writing career. Then in 1948, she moved to Tokyo, Japan, she went to a special school for military families. …show more content…

Lois Lowry grew up in a home with lots of books because her mother was a teacher. Her mother would often read books to her. When she was eight or nine years old she decided that when she was older, she wanted to be a writer.
Lois Lowry published a lot of books, some of her career-awarding books was the book “Number the Stars”, and it is a book about the World War 2. Another famous book was when she wrote the book” The Giver”, the book is about a boy named Jonas who can only access the memories of the past. Denmark was occupied by the Germans in the 9th of April, 1940. The only reason why German invaded Denmark because, Adolf Hitler had to control Denmark’s air bases and the country itself, so that it would be easier it attack Norway. Denmark was ruled by the Germans for 5 years which was until 1945. Most Danes in Denmark were pro-british and anti-nazi. Pro-british and anti-nazi knew that they had to adjust their life’s under the Germans control. King Christian X remained to rule and the Danish Government also remained to rule. The Danes supplied goods for the Germans, such as meat, rubber, and etc…
The Holocaust is the mass murder and discrimination of six million Jews. The meaning of the word "Holocaust" is sacrifice by fire. The Holocaust included Jews, Gypies, Communist, Socialist, and etc… During the war Germans and Nazis made a ghetto for the Jews, they also made labor camps for the Jews, which the Jews were forced to work in. The Final Solution is also called the Concentration Camp, the Concentration Camp is where Jews were killed and tortured. By the end of the war, in 1945, two thirds of the Jewish Population were dead.
