For the majority of my seventeen years, I can honestly say I didn’t always live by this. But there came a time when I realized in order to be anything of importance in this world, I needed to focus on me, my life and my future first and foremost before I could help others.

In the eighteen years of my life, I have done many things to achieve my goals. Though my objective tends to change in detail, it does not budge from the whole. My goals consist of gaining knowledge of the world and people, and provide myself a path to follow while changing the world a step at a time. Although my aims sounds a bit farfetched and difficult, it is what I intend to accomplish. Notable classes/activities are rare, yet the ones that I take note of has influenced my life choices and views of the world.
I want to pursue an M.S.S.W. at WTAMU because WTAMU have all the skills to teach me in become an effective social worker. The primary mission of West Texas A&M University Master of Science in Social Work mission is to assist graduates in working with rural communities facing unrelenting social and economic problems and that’s the population I want to work with. West Texas A&M University Master of Science in Social Work variety of theoretical perspectives which will help me in the future. This mission aligns with my professional interests and goals in several ways. My short-term goal is to graduate with my BSW and my BA minor in sociology and enter a competitive and innovative MSW program.

By setting goals that are much smaller to begin with, individuals can attain those and gain confidence and be encouraged to continue setting goals. This was a brilliant concept. I have found myself very discouraged after SMALL CHANGES BIG IMPACT falling short of a goal but may have not had the same experience if I would have set smaller 3 “mini”goals along the way. Why? I am interested in becoming a master-level social worker because I believe it is the next step for me. I hope to work with the early childhood population and their families. I have spent all of my professional career with this population and feel this is where I best stand. But I am ready to move from a teaching aspect into a more influential place where I am able to have a bigger impact on the children who need it most.
To enhance my experience I would like to work with veterans, adult homeless, and the mentally ill. My objective is to be admitted into the Master of Science degree program with an option in Rehabilitation Counseling, where I can grow and take on new challenges. Ultimately, I would like to assume further educational and gain work experience that would allow me to work more effectively with people with disabilities. Most importantly, I would like to work for an agency where I can build a career in counseling and possibly management. I am driven to be the best at what I do.
My educational goals include majoring in Human Development and Family Studies. This major had made me look twice and realize that what you study while being in the program gives you a different outlook on how humans or people, in general, develop over time at various stages in life no matter where they are. When I had started my college career I wanted to be Special Education teacher but realized that I would rather help children get out of situations that they are too young or do not have the right resources to help themselves then become a teacher.
