Essay Outline: “There is no one who is completely evil as to lack some goodness in him(Bangambiki Habyarimana). Lord of The Flies is a dystopian novel written by Willam G. Golding, which follows the story of a bunch of boys alone on an Island. With inspiration from the novel Coral Island, he revamped the story with a more realistic approach. The novel follows all the boys but particularly Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and Simon on their journey to survive on the island. While it starts off as a tale like Coral Island, the death of multiple characters makes this anything but a happy children's story. Regardless of the fact that these two can be seen as being inherently "good," it was because of their ideas that the few inherently genuine people were killed by the inherently evil savages as a consequence of the conflicts they started. Simon, who is viewed as the model person or Christ figure in the story, is coming down from the mountain knowing what the beast is. On his way back, he weaved through the undergrowth while carrying a piece of fabric as proof of what he had encountered. He jumped out of the bushes and then, “At once the crowd surged after it, poured down the rock, leaped onto the beast, screamed, struck, bit, tore. There were no words, and no movements but the tearing of teeth”(Golding 153). As Simon leaped out of the bushes, the savages who followed Jack assumed he was the beast. They ripped him apart and essentially murdered him on the spot. Simon's death caused Ralph, Piggy, and the rest of the Civilized group to endure a tragic loss. Simon's murder was implied to be necessary for the savagery to continue even though this conflict was intended to demonstrate that he was killed for possessing high moral standards and ethics. Simon's murder just served as the spark for the savages to unleash their rampage. After everyone else left for Jack's tribe and Ralph and Piggy were left alone on the island, the two decided to head to Castle Rock to restore order and peace. As soon as they got there, Piggy and Jack engaged in an argument that ended in death. After Roger pushed the boulder down, “The Rock struck Piggy with a glancing blow from chin to knee…”, and “See? See? Thats what you’ll get! I meant that! There isn't a tribe for you anymore! The conch is gone-”(Golding 181). Piggy was struck by the rock and murdered by Jack, who was ecstatic after his death.
