Around the time of World War II, a plane full of british schoolboys crashes on an island. Immediately the readers are introduced to Ralph and Piggy, who then find a conch on the sand. Using the conch, Ralph summons all the other boys on the island. Together, they vote for a leader and Ralph won; he named his opponent, Jack Merridew, the leader of the hunters. As the second order of business, Ralph, Jack, and Simon go out to explore the island. Upon arrival back to the rest of the boys, Ralph confirms that there are no adults, and they he proceeds to set some ground rules. The number one rule is that the boys need to keep a signal fire going, so that a ship can see and save them. During this time, the little ones are complaining about a beast that comes out of the water and stalks them at night. Coincidentally, Sam and Eric see a dead parachutist by some rocks and claim to have seen the beast. They warn Ralph, and he takes the biguns to find and kill the beast. While out on their expedition, Ralph says that they should wait till morning to climb the mountain, and as a compromise, Jack climbs the mountain with only Ralph and Roger. The boys also saw the parachutist, which was the “beast” and they bolted back to the other boys. Immediately they call a meeting, in which Jack calls Ralph out, wanting to vote him out of power. Baffled by this, no boy vetoed Ralph, and in spite of him, Jack marches off angrily to make his own group. When his hunters later joined him, they offered a pig’s head on a stick to the beast, like a peace offering; this became known as the Lord of the Flies. This is where Simon comes into play. Simon meets the Lord of the Flies, which is like Satan, and he is getting tormented and fell into a daze. Upon waking up, Simon realizes that the beast is a dead
