Gloria Checkley Mrs. Lawrence English 9 Honors March 29th, 2023 What makes a person a good leader? Having someone to help everyone’s ideas be heard and help lead a group down the best path is essential in difficult times. Leaders are role models and can help boost morale. They also offer reassurance to the group. However, not everyone is capable of being a leader. So, what makes a person a leader? In the book Lord of the Flies, Ralph was an example of a good leader. He was essential for the boys survival on the island. On page 33 Ralph makes a set of rules with the group so everyone is aware of what the expectations are. Ralph kept them all from doing what they wanted and instead made sure they did tasks that were important for the group's survival. Later on in the book the main leader becomes Jack who was an example of a bad leader. Jack led the group into chaos and they all would’ve eventually died. He was selfish and made decisions that were best for him like trying to kill off Ralph (pg 181)mainly because he didn’t get along with him. This …show more content…

Good leaders communicate effectively and confront problems head-on, avoiding passive-aggressive behaviors. Additionally, a leader should always try to make sure everyone’s voice gets heard. This way the group feels important and like their opinions matter. Leaders also make decisions that best fit the group instead of choosing actions to best fit their own wants and needs. An example of this would be trying to maximize everyone’s happiness, even if their personal and professional interests don't align. Lastly, leaders must gain everyone’s trust by staying true to their word and showing everyone they are trying their best. This also comes with time and by continuously showing that they care. When everyone is on the same page and trusts the decisions of the leader that will benefit the group, that is a good
