Manipulation has always been the verdict of human nature. Many will go to any circumstances to get their way and throughout history it was explained through three main techniques: Ethos, Logos, and Pathos. Sense forth they are used by various companies today through advertisement which include: social media, magazines, commercials, etc. Each of the methods can be used separate or through combination to obtain the goal of persuading a consumer to purchase - their product at display. Pathos is an appeal to emotion, and is a way of convincing an audience of an argument by creating an emotional response (Higgins). In the 2015 Budweiser Super Bowl Commercial “Lost Dog” they used pathos to get us emotionally invested into the story then revealed their product for profit. We were introduced to a man and his dog and through a series of events he gets lost and the dog trying to find his way home is in verdict of danger. In the commercial “Friends Are Waiting” uses two techniques being: Logos and Pathos. We are introduced to a man and his dog and the owner is going to go party with friends in which alcohol will be involved. The owner makes a promise to return so he may walk his dog the morning after in which the dog patiently waits for his arrival. He returns early next morning and explains why he did not come home last night ending with title sequence “If you drink, make a plan. Your friends are counting on you.” (Busch.). They play a nod to the infamous law of no driving while under the influence since their product is an alcohol beverage.
