After watching the video of the Boston prosecutor and reading the book Down and Dirty Justice I realized that there are procuestors within the criminal justice that do not just focus on punishing offender and putting them in prison. The prosecutor that worked for Boston used his discretion in exceptional way, which changed a young man's life for the better. I believe that prosecutor used his discretion in such excellent way, which was because he came from a similar background of many of those young men who was in the courtroom. If the prosecutor sent the young man to prison who stole those laptops he would have been ruined. He would have had a felony on his record, which would have made it difficult for him to get a job. He was actually in distraught once seeing how the court system operated. He noticed that justice wasn’t being served. Due to overload of cases many defenders were taking plea bargains whether they were innocent or not. However, Lowenthal faces a difficult case when a defender is accused of kidnapping and brutally beating a man he who claimed broke into his home. I believe Lowenthal used his discretion correctly by charging the defender. When looking at the pictures within the book it looked as the victim was beat pretty badly.
