Ludwig Wittgenstein Accomplishments

Each philosopher has his own way of thinking about the world and belong to different schools of thought. In the twentieth Century, Ludwig Wittgenstein was considered to be the “most influential philosopher” (Monk, 2015). What was amazing about this man was that he could have been anything he wanted to be, other than a philosopher. He had created the aero engine in 1909, cracked the Enigma code, or a billionaire since he has inherited so much money with the death of his father (Brown, 2011). Wittgenstein was influenced by the Viennese culture; in which he was raised. He had written his first book called “Tractatus Logico-Philosophicus” in 1922 (Monk, 2015). This book was “a landmark in the history of contemporary analytic philosophy” (Stroll, 2016). He was known for many things but mostly …show more content…

The beginning of his book he stated that “he announced that he considered himself to have found “on all essential points” the solution to the problems of philosophy” (Monk, 2015).
Wittgenstein was influenced by mathematical problems after reading The Principle of Mathematics, and The Foundation of Arithmetic (Monk, 2015). His interest of the philosophy of logic and mathematics became obsessive. Due to his engineering background and interest in logic, he had found the best subject suited for him (Monk, 2015). Wittgenstein developed what is called “Picture of Theory Meaning” (Monk, 2015). Picture Theory Meaning talked about how there are no logical facts or logical truth. In essence, logical form must be showing rather than stated, which is encompassing the idea of communication. Wittgenstein believed in order to communicate effectively we have to picture what the other person is saying. When one is telling a story we go through several pictures in order to understand in depth what is being said.
