It feels weird writing a part of my life on paper as if I am talking to a person and telling them my thoughts, feelings, and secrets. I am going to tell you who I am.
So here is where I begin. I am Lydia Michelson and I am 17. I live with my mother and father, Abner and Deborah Michelson. I am an only child who is soon to be married. My fiancee, Cyrus Brewer, is 18 and he is a tax collector. I fear for Cyrus. With all the anger from the patriots and the group that calls themselves “ The Sons of Liberty” he is in constant danger. While I was in there looking for the papers a man and his daughter were at the register buying some stamps and envelopes. I could tell from the deep conversation the man and the clerk were having that the man couldn’t pay for the items because of the tax and my heart reached out to them. I paid for the envelopes and stamps. After I paid for the items I walked out the door, forgetting about the papers I was going to buy for you, and a boy walked up to me asking if I was Cyrus Brewer. I said I was indeed and he handed me a letter and told me that he didn’t know who it was from. As you could probably guess I was curious, so I opened the letter and it said to go to the “Liberty Tree” at 2:45. It was 2:20 and I decided I better be on my way just to see what this mysterious person wanted. I arrived at the tree at 2:45 and as soon as I arrived a man approached me in all black. I imagine he did this to help hide his identity and to hide it even more he wore a black hat pulled down over his eyes. And it worked well for I had no idea who he was. I introduced myself and he asked me if I approved of the Stamp Act. I told him I did not. He asked me if he thought it should end I said yes.
