Mahatma Gandhi claimed that “Nobody can hurt [you] without [your] permission”. It is important to understand the meaning of hurting someone and giving permission to getting hurt. Permission means that you allow someone to do something, but it is not always given verbally. There may be certain actions given that may cause one to believe they have permission, however, you should never intentionally hurt someone because no one desires to be hurt. In this quote “hurting” someone can be mental, physical, or both. People have different ways of coping with being hurt, but in reality, everyone has feelings which will cause you to feel hurt whether it is mentally or physically. One prime example is the Holocaust because no one gave permission to get hurt mentally or physically. The Holocaust took place in Germany during the 1930s to 1940s. The Holocaust was an event where Nazis mistreated Jews greatly not only by excluding them but by sending them to concentration camps where they were overworked, tortured, and eventually killed. The jews did not give anyone permission to perform these inhumane tasks. About 6 million Jews died in this tragic event. The ones who survived were not able to fathom what they went through which caused an immense amount of emotional pain and suffering. The events and stories of the Holocaust were passed down from each family throughout the generations to alert people that anyone is capable of hurting you even if you don’t give them permission. The Jews did not give the Nazis or anyone permission to hurt them, but they were continuously hurt mentally and physically for about twelve consecutive years.
