1.0 Introduction
This report aims to determine those who think that marijuana should be legalized and those who think otherwise. The report will also provide background to the debate, its social significance, identify the parties involved and put forward the differing arguments related to the views held.

2.0 The issue and background to the debate
Marijuana is defined as dried leaves and female flowers of hemp plant known as Cannabis sativa which is used in cigarette. It also defined as the most illicit drug and which is smoked or ingested for euphoric effect. Marijuana contains a chemical compound inside named delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC). (National Institute on Drug Abuse 2013). Legalize is to make legal or lawful; authorize or sanction by law (Houghton Mifflin Company 2009).

3.0 The social significance of the debate
Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the US and the world. According to the National Survey on Drug Use and Health, statistics indicate that 44% of males and 35% of females have applied marijuana at least once in their life time. Peoples who smoke marijuana oftenly also have some respiratory diseases which is similar to many of the tobacco smokers (Herreid & DeRei 2007). Marijuana smoke have more carcinogenic substance contain in it as compare with cigarette smoke (Barr 1999). Marijuana smoke is an irritant to the lungs as it depresses the lung causes respiratory diseases higher risk of having lung cancer compare with tobacco smokers (National Institute on Drug Abuse 2013).
