In this portion, the interview of Mark Moyle, who was a manager at express, will be analyzed to understand how it applies to the management principle of controlling. Many companies are organized in many differing ways. As far as management goes, there is clearly some organization skills that reflect the controlling aspect of management. The division of five managers in each store reflects that Express has these managers all have certain control over certain divisions of the company. One aspect that I noticed about Mark's interview is that he was particularly upfront and honest about the issues or challenges in communication or decision making with how the company is organized. When speaking about the tiers of stores that Express has, Mark confessed that it can be hard for managers to communicate or learn concepts. He claimed that, in order to resolve the problem of not having the product that a customer may want, Express "would have to either call stores to find out if they had it or find the item using descriptons and special numbers to find the product quicker." In this way, it may take more time to call another store to find a product for a customer. A better alternative to this issue is using an online system where they can type in the item number and check to find out which stores have what product. In this way, employees can immediately locate the item at a faster pace instead of having a back and forth conversation on the phone or looking up just the item number to find out if they have it.
