A man of adventure and willy intellect, Mark Twain wrote many classic american novels ( “Mark” Biography.com). Some of the famous books he published, were The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. He was born on November 30, 1835 in Florida, Missouri with the name Samuel L. Clemens (“Mark” Biography.com). Although, he wrote under the pen name Mark Twain in his novels, Twain looked into the human soul with wit as he wrote his books. This is what made his books popular and attention getting. Now, his books are a national treasure. Mark Twain was one of America’s most well known authors and has influenced many people with his powerful writings.

When he was four years old, he moved to Hannibal, a town of about one thousand people. His father worked as a storekeeper, lawyer, judge, and land speculator. Although, at times, he would still find it hard to feed his family.On the other hand, his mother was warm hearted and would every night tell the children stories. She eventually became head of the household in 1847, when John died unexpectedly (“Mark” Biography.com). After his death, the family fell into economic struggle. The scarcity of money would end up being what shaped the career of Mark Twain (“Mark” Biography.com).
Sam Clemens lived in Hannibal for 14 years. A town located beside the Mississippi River made it an excellent place to grow up (“Mark” Biography.com).
