Mark Twain was considered to be the "Father of American Literature," so what did he do that presented him with such a title? Mark Twain was born in 1835 and died in 1910 at the age of 75. When Twain was 12 his father died so he had to go and work for his brother at a press. A little later in his life Twain began working as a captain on a steamboat and he absolutely loved his job. In this essay I will be informing you about Twain and his life, his works, and what he's said about himself.

After he was first published Twain was offered a 5 cent royalty to write another book he accepted and wrote "Innocence Abroad" which was published in 1869, but not without trouble. Twain had written and "turned in" his book on time (1868) and the publishing company started work on the book to get it published, but then for some reason the work was halted. After many questions about when his book would be coming out Twain asked the publishing company what was going on; his agent told him that the heads of the company didn't like his book and that they had been the ones to halt production. After a little more waiting Twain wanted his book out, so he contacted the publishing company and said that if they didn't have his books on sale in 24 hours that he would sew them, 24 hours later his book hit shelves.
