Mary Creagh: A Brief Analysis

This article written by Mary Creagh (2015) who is working in Lebanon with the Birmingham Based charity Islamic Relief, to see for herself what has been happening with the refugee crisis. She has listened to many refugees' for a first-hand view and to understand the trouble the refugees deal with on a day to day basis. The British public have seen in the media recently of videos and pictures of refugees in distress. Creagh (2015) is trying to share these refugees’ stories, so the British public get a better understanding of why these people have left their own country. “Towards the end of 2014, Lebanon took in 10000 Syrian refugees a day. That means every two days the country was offering shelter to as many refugees as David Cameron wants to take in five years.” (Creagh, 2015.) She portrays this as not enough support. Creagh (2015) recognises Britain has a reputation of helping people that are being prosecuted which dates back to the 1930’s. She feels that Britain should continue this legacy and step up to the task of helping the refugees, by offering more shelter and support. She feels that the UK government has failed these refugees and the countries that are struggling to cope with the numbers arriving. …show more content…

She has written very emotional stories, of the horrors these people have had to deal with on a day to day basis and more importantly how they survived. This is her intention to persuade her readers of the reality of the situation in Syria and why these refugees' are not economic
