She was married three over her life span. She had three children by her first husband, Ben Rogers. Their names were Richard, Ben and Marylyn. Mary Kay divorced Ben after he returned home from World War II. Her second husband died in 1963 from a heart attack just one month after they were married. Mary Kay married her third husband in 1966, his name was Mel Ash, and they remain married until his death in 1980. She wanted to help other women in the mainly male-dominated business world, so she set out to write a book to help women survive in this type business. With this in mind her book contained two lists, one contained things the companies had done right that she had experienced first-hand in companies she had worked in. The other listed things they could have done to make working in the business much better. After she finished and read what she had written, realized that she had unintentionally created a plan for marketing a company she started. She hopes were that this company would provide women with endless potential and the chance to achieve personal and financial success. Mary Kay Foundation supports Domestic Violence shelters and cancer research and other related causes. Since around 1996, the foundation has awarded $37 million dollars to the domestic violence programs in all of our 50 states, and $22 million dollars to cancer programs throughout the U.S. In Canada $300,000 dollars has been awarded to domestic violence women's shelters and outreach programs. Over 100,000 women fighting cancer have benefitted from the Foundation's work with Look Good Feel Better Program.
