There is an aura that radiates from the soul of a woman who knows exactly who she is. I was missing that inner energy and I longed to be satisfied with it. I’ve read books and exposed myself to the history of woman and learned how women have persevered in the face of great calamity. Women have made it through storms of oppression, stood firm and fought iron trials with a soft fist. Women have stood face to face with the devil and through prayer obtained the victory. Women have showed up in a man’s war with aprons and high heel shoes to fight for justice. Women have used seduction to build dreams. As a woman who was challenged from the beginning, I loved to get tipsy, hold onto anger, accuse my mother of messing up my life and find methods of escape that were destroying me, robbing me of true satisfaction. I loved to rehearse defeat and indulge myself in ways that were momentarily gratifying, but not eternally satisfying. Perhaps like, having sex with multiple men at the same time? I know many have gone to church and left the same way they came. But the question is not whether or not God is able or willing to bring deliverance. The question is what were we looking for when we went? We, as women, can get so preoccupied with the wrong stuff in the right places. That’s why we go to church for all the wrong reasons, such as to find a husband, even if it’s somebody else’s husband.
The problem in church is not always with the seeker, but sometimes it’s the church ministry itself. It’s important that we, as Christians, remember the purpose of the church and the power of the God we come to worship. Church is not just for the less complicated situations. We have developed ministries that only deal with the prosperous, the business minded, the ones who have already mounted up with wings as eagles, and those who appear to be
