Imagine you having this big test coming up. You plan to divide the studying over some days. But then you rather watch that movie, or hang with your friends thinking “but I still have the weekend”. But on the weekend you want to do other things. As a result of this, when there’s only one day left you panic and have to study everything in one day and sit up the whole night. In the Ted Talk “In the mind of a master procrastinator,” Tim Urban talks describes how your brain works if you are a procrastinator. A procrastinator is a person who always puts off doing something until it’s very very close to the deadline.
He starts the speech with sharing a story about when he went to college. When other students got their assignments they always seem to spread the work out but he always ended up writing the whole assignment at the last minute.

He explains it with “ The fun you have in the Dark Playground isn't actually fun, because it's completely unearned, and the air is filled with guilt, dread, anxiety, self-hatred — all of those good procrastinator feelings.”
According to Urban, all procrastinators has a guardian angel, which he calls “The panic monster”. He shows up when you are very close to the deadline and there’s a risk of for example public embarrassment. So he makes you finish the assignment.
He got a lot of mails from listeners who related a lot, but they were actually very sad because what the monkey had done to them. Because “The panic monster” only shows up when there are deadlines, yet in real life, there are many situations that don’t have deadlines. For example, if you want to work out or start a career. He explains that “The frustration is not that they couldn't achieve their dreams; it's that they weren't even able to start chasing
