Meaning Over Comfort Personal Statement

“Meaning over comfort” was what I imprinted for my Dear World photo at Babson and are the same words that characterized my mindset and interest in the three month BRIC journey in Russia, China and India. Now over a year later of my application and three months after completing this expedition, when limited to three words, there is no better way to summarize the experience. These three countries took its participants out of our comfort zone but took us to a place that was much more meaningful, one where we discovered ourselves and the world around us firsthand.
Today, I stand eager to continue this experience of pursuing meaning over comfort, and do it through a different lens, that compliments and builds upon the BRIC program. As I look to …show more content…

My academic plan is molded around this and studying abroad in Brazil (this fall) is a continuation of the plan. More specifically, in entering a potential semester abroad in Brazil, I will be in the tail end of my Babson experience, where I would be taking classes which build upon my foundation courses and allow me to see the interconnectedness of all the subjects I have taken (and the importance to have their implications in mind). For example, when looking at a finance questions in Brazil, it will be important to have in mind, the legal, social and ethical dimensions that are also part of the case in hand. With that said, more than ever I understand that challenges will be present and must be dealt with during my time abroad. In terms of how to deal with these challenges, that are specific to my time in Brazil, I hope to continue to work with and leverage the multiple resources that are presented to me. This includes the CIEE offices of São Paulo, the Babson Glavin Office of Multicultural and International Education and also the past Babson participants of the CIEE Business and Culture Program (who have already been so helpful in the application and discovery process). More specifically, these two individuals are close friends, one participated in the program after BRIC in 2015, Ana Sofia Nolfo, and the second who is currently in the program, Laura Jimenez.
