As a product of generation Y, I have had the luxury of access to a plethora of technology over the course of my history. This has created an over-exposure of media not only to my generation, but to the succeeding generations as well. While technology and media have gone through constant metamorphosis, media exposure has ever increased.
As a young child, I had limited connections to media content. Most of my exposure to media was limited to television or movies. It wasn’t until 1st grade that I used my first computer. Every subsequent year after that, my technology use grew. My teachers began implementing computers and the internet use in their lesson plans. When I was a child I never imagined how large of an access we would have to information, nor how easy it would be to access this information. The world has transferred to a digital culture where we preserve our memories, traditions and information on the internet. I was not until I entered high school that I became fully enveloped in my media use.

The most important influence I’ve had an adopting this media use, has been peer influence. For the longest time, I was against using social media. But after constant pressure from my friends I caved in and decided to give these sites a shot. It started with Myspace back in 2008 and only grew from there. The use of these sites have had both positive and negative influences on my life.
When I first started my use of Facebook, all I cared about was how many friends I could add. The more I friends I added, the cooler it made me seem. However over the years I realized that having friends is not about quantity, but rather quality.
