In the United States 23 out of 52 states have legalized marijuana. So with new laws and restrictions on medical marijuana in all 24 states and even now recreational marijuana in 4 of those states, some serious questions are arising. Like, since medical marijuana is helping and improving serious diseases, is the risk of getting addicted to medical marijuana worth the benefits that come from it? First marijuana is not physically addictive and the odds of dying due to marijuana is extremely low or even closer to never especially in comparison to alcohol, cigarette smoking, and other serious drugs. People fear marijuana mostly because it can become a dependency in a person's’ life after regular dosages. Medical marijuana can help people with sleeping disorders, eating disorders, epilepsy, cancer, glaucoma, Alzheimer’s, certain syndromes, and many other illnesses. Medical marijuana is still a growing industry that has a lot of research being conducted to show its positive effects, in hope of one day solving many cures to complex diseases and disorders. For example, in 2013 a 2-year-old baby named Charlotte was suffering from epilepsy and the medicine doctors were prescribing was not working. Sometimes the medicines prescribed even made her disorder worse. The parents of this child felt like they no longer could be depending on medical professionals, so they weighed out all their options in order to save their daughter. Their last resort was trying concentrated marijuana in small doses every day in her food. Surprisingly the progress of their daughter's’ epilepsy was the best it had ever been.
