Growing up you are constantly warned about the dangers of drugs and it is drilled into your mind that all drugs are bad. Marijuana, also known as Cannabis and Pot, is a drug that is widely enjoyed throughout the country. Marijuana should be legalized in all fifty states because it has the capacity to heal diseases, a government tax can be placed on it and legalizing it would allow law enforcement to focus on life threatening crimes. Legalizing marijuana will help the community, the state, and the world.

A tax on Pot could bring in a hefty revenue like never before. Colorado is one of the few states to legalize both recreational and medical marijuana, the tax revenue is booming. “Colorado collected almost $70 million in marijuana taxes during that time, nearly double the $42 million collected from alcohol taxes.” (Basu) The states, much like Colorado, would only benefit from the legalization. More taxes would be collected from both recreational and medical uses of marijuana. A tax on it would bring in a hefty revenue to the states dispensing. If you use those numbers as an estimate, the whole country could potentially bring in over three and a half billion dollars annually. As a result of Marijuana being legalized there will be more opportunities for jobs and more chances for people to expand their knowledge on the subject. . If every state legalized Marijuana, it would allow weed entrepreneurs to open dispensaries or nurseries and allow them to create more jobs. Creating jobs not only means unemployment rates will drop but it also means more money in circulation for the economy. The more businesses there are the easier it is for people to flourish.
