Have you heard of the drug marijuana or commonly known as “weed”? I have, and I believe that it should be legalized. Making marijuana illegal hasn’t seemed to stop anyone who wants to from using this drug. There are multiple reasons why legalizing marijuana is a good. Such as, it would most likely be adding more jobs into the community. It would reduce the criminal use for this drug. Legalizing it could cause the “dealers” to go out of business. It could also reduce the risk of the marijuana being laced with a more serious drug such as meth. I believe there needs to be a limit to how much you can possess and how old you have to be (at least 18). First of all, if we legalize marijuana there would be less of a chance it would harm the user. Buying this drug from “dealers” can be very dangerous because you can never fully know where they got it from and if it has been tampered with or not. Cannabis, hemp, and marijuana are all the same plant. They can be used for things such as clothing, oil extract, wood substitute, clothing, etc. If we legalize marijuana, there might be marijuana farms which would need to be tended to, adding more jobs into the community. Therefore, helping those who need a job. Also, hemp creates more paper than any other plant and is a lot more environment friendly than cotton because it doesn’t require as many chemicals or pesticides. About 1 acre of hemp will produce an equal amount of fiber to 2-3 acres of cotton and about 1 acre of hemp produces as much paper as 2-4 acres of trees. So, hemp could help save the trees and reduce the amount of chemicals we put into the land. It also isn’t a complicated plant to grow. So, it would then give more access to taxes for the government.
