Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the United States. In 2015, more than 11 million young adults, ages 18 to 25, used marijuana in the past year (National, 2016, p.240). In the past few years there have been numerous studies to show the effectiveness of medical marijuana in the body. These studies have shown that legalizing medical marijuana would reduce pain and help ease the symptoms of certain disorders, and diseases. Currently, 10 states have legalized medical marijuana with other states allowing comprehensive medical marijuana (Hanson, 2018). California has benefited greatly from being the first state to legalize medical marijuana; other states have benefited greatly from legalizing marijuana, just like California. Considering the growing scientific research that supports its effectiveness in the medical field, medical marijuana should be legalized across the United States. It should be legalized because it reduces pain and can slow down side effects of disorders, medical professionals support its legalization, it has no health risks to the user, and it is non-addictive for medical purposes. Medical marijuana has been proven to alleviate pain in patients with diseases or disorders that cause them daily pain. The way that marijuana is processed is through the brain receptors. Humans are all born with an endocannabinoid system and their receptors are found throughout the body. Often times, marijuana is mixed with more serious and deadly drugs to create a more intense high. If marijuana was legal, the Federal Drug Administration would be in charge. Smokers would then realize what they are actually smoking. Therefore, smokers would be able to smoke a more pure crop rather than a more deadly
