The medical field is always expanding with new research to treat and fight illnesses and severe conditions. There comes a point where certain people have no options left and the only option could be an illegal treatment. One of these treatments is known as medical cannabis, or medical marijuana. Marijuana is illegal on the federal level, however there are certain states that have legalized it for its medical purposes. This has caused families to move across the United States to receive treatment for either them or a loved one because it is not available in their home state. We should not limit our medicine advancements that could possibly help thousands of people across the America. Medical marijuana is a controlled substance and people will be penalized if they abuse this drug. To be able to obtain medical marijuana a user must apply for a medical marijuana card. You can apply for this card at a medical office or online. This card varies from state to state depending on which condition a user was diagnosed with, and in some cases how long. University of Texas at Dallas researchers did a study on crimes in all 50 states from 1990 to 2007, and found that the legalization of medical marijuana did not increase the level of crimes committed in the states that had legalized it (Webmd.com, 2). Regardless of marijuana being legalized in certain states for medical purposes, it is still illegal to deal and sell drugs on the black market.
