UW Medical Center offers me the opportunity to grow as a mature adult to provide support to my community. Volunteering has come to my heart in bringing out my selflessness and helping me realize that I am part of something bigger than myself. UW Medical Center, in particular, gives me the ability to work in my desired field of medicine, especially laboratory research. Growing up in a community where medicine plays a large part of my family’s lives, I want the chance to dive deeper into the roots of medicine and hopefully research. I am very attached to the concept of serving others, and I find every opportunity to do so in a mature, motivated, and respectful manner.
Interests drive the mind to extents which one deems incapable. The interest that has fueled me to embark on this pathway in my education is science. To put in retrospect my affection for science extends to its learning process into the depths of human evolution, anatomy, and causes of illnesses being deciphered. I dearly want to be part of the process of discovering new niches in today’s scientific community and believe that I can surely begin this expedition at this college. So far I have stated the causes of my curiosity but now I would like to share how I manipulated this drive into actions.
God has blessed me with every type of love: love of a teacher, love of a friend, love of family, and most importantly his love. Altogether, the love from my teachers, friends, parents, and Heavenly Father has shown me what love should be like, unconditional and limitless. Their examples of love have inspired me to spread my love also. Not only to my family, but also the entire community.
One of the reasons I want to go into the medical field is because I feel like it will help me continue to understand the reasons behind why we act the way we do. If we know why we have to fight the tendency of relying on bias or thinking about ourselves over others, we can better navigate how to be who we may want to be. In other words, "I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. "
I have always had the desire to find a career that enabled me to help others improve their quality of life. Growing up with my father as an elementary school teacher, I witnessed first-hand the positive influence you can have on a child’s life, as well as their future. He always stressed that each student is an individual, not just a number. Early on, I learned that every child is far more than their standardized test scores. Even though I felt the draw to work with children, I knew that little reward came from the hard work of being a regular classroom teacher.
I seek a program that gives me hands-on learning and autonomy in a healthy team environment, with supervision and academic support available to help me improve. My determination, relentless energy, focused strategic thinking, and ability to always give my best will help me contribute to the program. I want to become a caring, confident and competent physician after completing the residency. I eagerly look forward to the next step of my
For more than fifty years, my grandfather ( an activist and leader in education) has worked closely with Presidents and secretaries of the department of education to ensure the education of millions of students. His work led him to fund universities and schools in the Dominican Republic. He was the voice of millions, at a time where protesting for one’s right could lead to incarceration or death. His passion for education and the well-being of his fellow citizens was what inspired me to a career in education. Thus, obtaining a Master degree in Educational Leadership and Policy Studies at Boston University will further my knowledge of the required leadership qualities, specialized and research skills so that I may ultimately become a leader
I am interested in applying for The John and Margaret O'Connell Memorial Scholarship for University of Massachusetts Amherst students who are residents of Norwood. I have decided to attend the University of Massachusetts Amherst because of the amazing musical opportunities they have to offer. I am extremely interested in participating in all of the ensembles at the University of Massachusetts Amherst such as the Minuteman Marching Band, the Wind Ensemble and the Orchestra. I plan to major in Music Education in the fall of 2016, and I intend to obtain a master’s degree in this field.
Throughout these classes, you learn valuable knowledge about the medical field ranging from different medical careers to pathophysiology. All of the information I have learned puts me ahead of other students who share my career path and it has confirmed my desire to work in the medical field.
The University of Michigan offers an abundance of opportunities and classes in many fields, and I am especially appealed by those in the LSA Department of Psychology. I am interested in taking courses in Cognitive Development and Developmental Psychology, which cover topics regarding child development, emotions, and knowledge. Moreover, I hope to have the opportunity to meet Dr. Shelly Schreier, whose expertise overlaps with my academic focus, as I want to study the social behavior of children and childhood brain development. I am also attracted to the diverse selection of resources offered, especially those relating to global study and public service. I like to take an in-depth approach to learning, and I hope to fulfill this aspiration by getting involved in the many global study opportunities available to undergraduates.
“You're so frail and slight in (the moon’s) silvery light; Our fate is not one we can fight.” (A Cruel Angel’s Thesis) Fate is predetermined by forces beyond human capacity, yet humans attempt to take control of the process through the pressures of society. Society applies a standard of perfection and success to new generation, even if the environment has changed to reflect a new era. As a teenager growing up in California, my life is influenced not from my wishes, but rather those of my environment, as competition is rampant to join the ranks of programmers and engineers.
