Melisa Richardson was a successful salesperson of ColorTech Greenhouse, Inc. in Chicago who was promoted for management position at the headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona. The ColorTech Greenhouse, Inc. was supplier of different type flowers to big box stores. The company was facing a lot of problems such as downward trend is sales, unsatisfied customers. Phoenix Office was the heart of the company, which was also harmful for ColorTech. The reason is being that a corporate headquarters had an unhealthy work atmosphere in sales department. Staring from that previous sales manager was fired because he was caught in fraud, poor teamwork, bad relationship between management and employees. Not only misbalance at the company affected Richardson’s performance, also her unpreparedness for management position, lack of leadership skills and miscommunication with her boss, which then followed really unfortunate consequences. She couldn’t build teamwork and couldn’t find language with her employees, in result she was accused of gender discrimination. She even didn’t realize that she wasn’t ready for becoming a sales manager. She was confident in herself, but being a top passionate salesperson was not enough. Everything seemed to her easy, she thought she knew she was doing, but she was in need of knowledge of managing and how to be a leader. The responsibility of the sales manager is to ensure that sales quotas for the whole group are met; that sales forecasting is as accurate as possible; that customers are satisfied; that the marketing plan is followed; that leads are followed up, and more. Also sales manager have to create a good working atmosphere, to motivate and inspire workers. Richardson did really great job on the sales part but she didn’t have any idea about management
