Robert Penn Warren was an American writer and poet, born in Guthrie, Kentucky on April 24th, 1905 (Zworykin 121). He received a considerable university education, receiving a master’s degree from the University of California and then a doctorate degree at Oxford University, all by the year 1930 (Zworykin 121). Throughout his career, Warren received many awards for his achievements, eventually becoming the first person to receive the Pulitzer Prize in both fiction and in poetry (“Robert Penn Warren”). Book of Malachi The Book of Malachi is the last prophetic book in the Old Testament. The book does not provide dates or references to actual people or events, thus it is unknown when the book was truly written. However, since the book uses a specific term for “governor,” historians believe that the book was written after the Judeans return to Judah after being held captive by the Babylonians (Access Bible, 1300). The book was written to correct the behaviors of the Judeans in their relationships with God and with one another.
The Bible is separated into two main sections, the Old and New Testaments. The Old Testament tells of the time before Jesus Christ comes into the world. On the other hand, the New Testament tells of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Many people view the Old and New Testament as being totally separate parts of the bible. The view point of these two different sections may be somewhat true for certain subjects, such as the list of unclean animals and the covenant associated with circumcision.
The Dead Sea Scrolls are a collection of texts that were found in eleven caves. They were discovered near the Dead Sea between 1946 and 1956 by Bedouin shepherds and archeologists (Vanderkam, Flint, 2002). There are many different versions of the story and details diverge from one story to another, but there is one version that I found most common in my research. Three men from the tribe of Bedouin named Khalil Musa, Jum’a Muhammad Khalil, and Muhammad Ahmed el-Hamed were tending to their flocks of sheep and goats in the region of Ain Feshka on the northwestern side of the Dead Sea (Lim, 2005). They were looking for a goat who had gone astray and were throwing rocks into the openings to try and find it.
Book of REVELATION, is the last book of the Bible. The word ‘Revelation’ is derived from the Greek word ‘apokalupsis’ which means “a disclosure, or unveiling, and this book unveils Christ and the mystery of His return to earth as the Judge. This revelation was given to the apostle John while he was in Roman-imposed exile on the Island of Patmos in the eastern Mediterranean around 95 A.D. The book of Revelation has 22 chapters and the events are arranged in chronological order.
The book of 1-2 Kings was written to record a history but, if we study it carefully, this history was presented to teach the reader a lesson. Looking at the message and themes that being developed in this book, we can be sure that there is one important thing that the writer wants his reader to understand: learn from Israel’s mistakes. The king’s failures to lead the people of Israel and Judah caused by their disobedience and unfaithfulness to God and His covenant. All this failures can be identified because there were so much things going on that caused Israel and Judah failed to be faithful in obeying the covenant responsibilities. Idolatry and the lack of priorities can be said as the top two reasons on why these kings and nations failed.
