On the night of January 20th, 1998 in Escondido, California, the lives of the family of 12 year old Stephanie Crowe were turned upside down. Stephanie’s body was discovered lifeless on her bedroom floor by her parents and grandmother. Stephanie had been stabbed 9 times, and there was no sign of forced entry into the house. The young girl’s window was unlocked that night but there was a screen in place and there was no evidence showing there was an entry through the window. The sliding glass door in the parent’s, Steve and Cheryl Crowe, room was also unlocked but they claimed they would’ve heard if someone had came through the door because of the blinds on the door.

The news of a break-in that left a Windsor woman dead made the headlines on December 11 2014. She was later identified as 31 years old Cassandra Kaake, a 7 ½ months pregnant expectant (CBC News 2017a). During the investigation, the crime unit identified her murderer as 28 years old Matthew Brush from LaSalle, Ontario (Windsor Star 2017). Upon further investigation, it was revealed that on the night of December 10 2014, Brush broke into Kaake’s home with the intent to steal her underwears and masturbate, an obsession he’s had since his teen years (CBC News 2017a). Another problem they had with this case was that they didn’t have a body. Jessica’s body was nowhere to be found. Another thing that I found interesting while reading this book that this was the first case in Nebraska that involved a murder where there was no body to be found. And that these types of cases usually take around seven to ten years to solve. After reading that I was also surprised to learn that the trial against Edwards took place around a year after he was arrested.
Police were having such a hard time solving this investigation and were so desperate for a break that they looked for help from a well known nationwide criminologist to help look into the investigation. She was last seen by a store clerk where she was purchasing a wig from, where she mentioned how she was getting a ride with a stranger on a motorcycle.

There were five other known victims that ranged in age from three months to two years old. Many of them happened while she was working at a San Antonio Charity Hospital. Many question why she was even able to get jobs elsewhere after being fired from other places for crude reasons. Many that worked with her thought she was very dark and scary. It has also come known that she was also very inappropriate and insensitive to not only patients but also coworkers at her previous jobs (Elkind).

When Jenny was found she had stab wounds to the stomach, the back, and there were rope marks on her neck. She appeared to be stabbed several times and then strangled to finish the job, people were confused on who would ever do this.
