The Middle Years Movement
Middle schools refer to the structural arrangements or academic approaches or philosophy tailored towards accommodating students in the middle schooling years. It can be a separate organizational unit for the young adolescents or a set of principles for teaching, learning and curriculum for young adolescents. This paper compares and contrasts the concepts of middle schools and junior high schools, and reflects on a persons experience in middle school. There is also need to consider how the recommendation in “Taking center stage” manifest in my middle school experience. Other things to be considered include the level to which the schools have changed and the need for more reforms.
Both High Schools and Middle school are tailored towards giving their students the knowledge that they need to learn. The physical environments, as well as the organizational routines, tends to be very similar, yet the feeling and psychological backdrop differs. I could feel a dynamic learning environment courtesy of the efforts being exhibited by the teachers. In my middle school experience, some of the recommendations in "Taking Center Stage" were present. For instance, technology had been greatly used in a bid to improve and increase the student academic achievement (Fenwick Worrall & Levin, 2001). All the stakeholders were held accountable for high behavioral and academic expectations. However, a few gaps were also evident in a few areas.
