Have you ever fallen in love? If so, you know love and relationships are not always perfect. In A Midsummers Night’s Dream, there are many different relationships, not all that are perfect. Hermia and Lysander fall in love initially but then Lysander gets a spell put on him, which causes their relationship to fall apart. Lysander’s spell makes him fall in love with Helena. Demetrius never loved Helena until he gets put under a spell which makes him love Helena. That causes the two best friends, Hermia, and Helena to fight over lovers. Hermia is annoyed because both Lysander and Demetrius love Helena, even though before they both loved her. For example, Hermia even when she is mad at Lysander, she still stays loyal and loves him through the entire play. At the begging of the play Hermia says to Lysander, “I swear to thee by cupid’s strongest bow… Tomorrow truly will meet with thee” (MND 1.1 172+181). People may say this, and they promise they will love them forever, but this is not true. Couple may still love each other for life, but they still have their fights occasionally. Hermia and Lysander will find this out soon in A Midsummer Night's Dream. Lysander and many people realize that they “Hast mistake quite” (MND3.2 90-91). Many people make mistakes while in love, and that causes relationships to not be perfect. Everyone expects love to be true and they will never fight with their lover, but that is not true at all. Humans can have relationship problems with many different people or even nature. Human vs Human is quite common in the real world. In a midsummer night’s dream, there are many different fights between people. One huge fight is between Hermia and “If you were civil and knew courtesy, You would not do thus much injury” (MND 3.2 147-148). Friends get in fights so much, and Hermia and Helena are the exact same as everyone else. Loyal friends will sometimes have fights, but Hermia and Helena are always fighting. Which asks the question of, are they loyal friends? Hermia questions Helena’s friendships a lot throughout the book. Many people will question their friendships sometimes. Hermia and Helena shows that even best friends, do not have a perfect relationship. Many people also deal with hard relationships with nature. That could be being allergic to a plant or pollen in nature, or in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, a human can deal with hard relationships with fairies. Robin Goodfellow, Puck, enjoys pranking humans. He makes them question nature. An example of this is when puck in Lysanders voice, says “ follow my voice. We try no manhood here” (MND 3.2 428). Puck is doing this to try to break up the fight between Lysander and Demetrius. He is getting them farther away from each other.
